Most disagree with government cuts.

Eighty-one percent of respondents to a poll commissioned by NAPE disagree with government cuts announced in the recent provincial budget.

The Harris/Decima poll found 71 percent of respondents said they oppose or strongly oppose the cuts and the decision-making process, with 20 percent in the "strongly opposed" category.

Two percent of respondents said they strongly supported the budget.

Eighty-four percent of those polled said that the government did not conduct proper consultation and study prior to introducing the budget, and 81 percent thought the government should review the job cuts.  Forty-one percent of those polled strongly opposed the cuts, while three percent supported them.

“The results show overwhelcming concern and disapproval with the Dunderale government’s decision-making process and cuts to public services.”

When asked if the cuts would have an impact on the delivery of public services in the province, 84 percent said it would, and 55 percent identified the impact as "major".

The poll was conducted among 503 randomly selected residents of Newfoundland and Labrador via telephone.
